Intermittent Fasting
Anyone tried this before? Pat Gelsinger has been doing this once a week for decades and he once told me it makes a huge difference for him.
Guidance I have seen is to not eat anything except water, black coffee if you need it... for 18 hours. Best to eat a normal dinner... say, 6PM, then not eat again until noon the next day. So really you are skipping one meal but also no snacks. I've read and heard from friends that it does amazing things to jumpstart metabolism, prevent disease, raise energy, etc.
The theory is scarcity: Rather than living as though we can get whatever we want, whenever we want it, we allow some times where there is nothing to eat... go back to our ancient roots. Natural living. You can only eat what you grow and kill.. which sometimes, causes scarcity. The body reacts well to this.
Mark Mattson, a neuroscientist who's been intermittent fasting himself for the last 35 years has some suggestions: I suggest that in the morning you drink some tea or coffee and keep busy working until noon or 1pm (18 hours after dinner the night before). If you usually exercise, then you may want to an hour before you eat. Then eat a moderate amount of (healthy) food right after you exercise (e.g., 600-900 calories depending on your size), and eat the rest of your food during a 3-4 hour time window in the late afternoon to early evening. The biggest benefit is that your mind will be clearer and you will be more productive during the entire morning.
